Quantum Startup Misunderstands Quantum Computing
Quantum Thought is a quantum computing startup based in San Francisco, CA. Here is a screenshot of their webpage on enterprise consulting:
The last sentence suggests a complete misunderstanding of quantum computing:
IBM announced a 64 qubit volume which really gives processing power of 2 to the 64th which is 18,446,744,073,709,551,616 of processing power on one machine!
Here are some issues:
- First, "64 qubit volume" is not a thing. It could be a "64 qubit" computer or a quantum computer with a "quantum volume of 64." Merging them into "qubit volume" is nonsense.
- Next, "18,446,744,073,709,551,616 of processing power" is also nonsense. "Processing power" is not a unit of measurement.
- Third, if they mean a 64 qubit quantum computer has the processing power of a 2^64 = 18,446,744,073,709,551,616 bit classical computer, that's also wrong.
Verdict: Quantum Misinformation
