Will the D-Wave Quantum Annealer Solve COVID-19?

Around the start of the pandemic, D-Wave announced that access their quantum annealers would be free for researchers looking for solutions to COVID-19. To suggest that their devices would actual yield solutions to the pandemic, however, is misleading. @peter_rohde points this out with a simple statement:

"We've heard positive feedback from organizations and developers around the world and are looking forward to their collaboration with our global partners to find potential solutions to COVID-19." – CEO of D-Wave.

D-Wave's claim might even be harmful, taking scientists away from actual potential solutions to play around with a quantum device.
